WHY do you people consider it 'bashing' the State when posters are simply answering the OP's question? BTW there are parts of Alaska where it gets 80 below in the winter.

Because most of them paint an overly bleak picture of the state while often praising other places. And more often than not, neither scenario matches reality. If we want people to continue to stay in Ohio, to work towards improving our cities and economy, we need to fight against and dispell these negative claims. Honestly, right now, it seems clear that perception is stronger than reality, and it should be the other way around.

So in other words you want them to lie? I found a few things I disagreed with houstonbound, but overall, positive or negative, they are entitled to their opinion. Everyplace has the good with the bad.

Ohio is a "harsh environment"?

You do need to get out more. I'd consider Hurricane Rita which smashed into Houston a few years ago far more harsh than anything you'll find in the Buckeye State. As for you not liking NE Ohio's "hotter than hell," man you sure picked the wrong place to move to.

Because this thread is moronic and many of the responses are ignorant.

No, I'm saying a lot of what people are saying is just not reality. Opinion is one thing, but it should be supported by the facts. What people seem to be doing in this thread is merely taking their personal bad experiences and projecting them onto their particular city and especially the state.

This is to everyone on this thread, and no one in particular:

Let's put it this way. I want to leave Ohio because it is where I grew up and I personally find it responsible and rewarding to go out and find other places, people, things.

Nothing is wrong with Ohio (besides perhaps how it brands itself), but people need to also experience, for good or bad, places outside where they are now. The same goes for all 50 states and perhaps all westernized countries.

What I do find fault with is people making overarching and broad statements. Perhaps they are true, to an extent. The end point is that to each his own, but beware others can (and should) challange your stance on things, whatever they are. That is what makes for a healthy, free society.

No kidding. It doesn't make any logical sense. Houston's spring through autumn is consistently much hotter than anything we experience here.

I agree completely. The grass is always greener on the other side... until you get there and realize that for every benefit over what you left behind, there is a different problem entirely. Ohio, for all it's problems, is not nearly as bad as most of these posts portray it to be, and in fact, some of the reasoning is just really bizarre and untrue.
