Default Moving to W. Salem

I am considering moving to W. Salem in December. From the 2007 census, there are no blacks. As an African American, I'm concerned my family may suffer needles prejudice. I would love to hear from the residence.

Dear Missourigirl,

I would say "Welcome to Ohio" it's a great state, but warn you against W. Salem. I have personal experience with a hate group around W. Salem in the Franchester road area. Wooster is near enough to W. Salem, but more diverse. Please feel free to email me if you want.

Default Moving to

I live in West Salem, I dont see much racism going on in the area, although I have to say it is a poor area. You have to travel 20 minutes to get anywhere. We moved here when gas was still 99 cents a gallon. Now paying through the nose for gas just to get to work.
I haven't had a very good experience here myself, but this is a small town and it is not open to growth or expansion.
There are other small towns near by that are much better suited, and if the economy and the housing market were much better we would sell and move.

I would advise against West Salem. There's only 2 cities in Wayne County with any number of African Americans - Wooster and Orrville. You would not be racially hated in either of those. Everywhere else in the county is white. West Salem is precariously close to Lodi, the home of a former head of the KKK, where one day an African American traveling with me was pursued for many miles. Thankfully, my driving skills avoided a confrontation. Trust me, if you're coming to Wayne County, you will be miserable anywhere except Wooster and Orrville. Good luck to you.

Dragway 42 is near it, just off of SR42.
