I knew this kid for a short while that lived in one of the fancy bennington houses with the private lake, he played drums for me and my cousin in a half ass band we had some years ago, his mom didnt want him to come to 62nd st. just a block or two north of ames to practice with us for fear he'd be carjacked or shot, we had to drive out to like 190 somethin street just to practice, that didn't last long.

people think omaha's boring, which isn't that far from the truth. It's a cute little town if you're just passing though, but that's about it.

Here I'll save you the time.

Mountains
Oceans
Good weather year round.

To which I reply neither do lots of other more "it" places, Chicago, DC, Philly, Dallas, Minneapolis. I'm not really an outdoors person so the lack of oceans and mountains really isn't a problem for me or something I would look for in a place.

What "people"? Boring compared to what? Your post makes me think that you're just trolling around, and haven't spent much time (if any) here. For its size, I think Omaha has a lot to offer----a lot more than some larger cities I've lived in.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would consider Omaha boring either. Omaha is what it is. It's a mid-sized city in the Midwest with as much or more entertainment/ammenities than most cities it's size.

If you're bored in Omaha, you can be bored anywhere.

Do we really have to retread this conversation?

I find Omaha boring. It all depends on how you define recreation and what your priorities are. If you're a vegetarian foodie, for example, you're screwed. If you value hiking surrounded by nice weather and natural beauty (as DTO pointed out) you're screwed. If you know a bunch of people here, like steak, are clannish, and want a nice quiet place to raise tomatoes and kids you will do OK.

Seriously, the best tomatoes I have ever grown were here.

Congrats on your tomatoes...i guess. Pretty lame if that's the best you can get out of this place.

Usually I defend your POV but I feel compelled to respond.

Natural beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've seen the ocean and the forests and neither are for me. I never realized how much I liked the openess of rural NE until I saw other places. But it's different strokes for different folks. Again, not being an outdoors person the terrain isn't high on my list of what I look for in a place to live.

Secondly, just because we live in NE doesn't mean that everyone here is a gouche simple minded carnivore. I'm not going to say those people aren't in Omaha but they're everywhere. Also if you've found people that treat you that way I'm sorry but it's not everyone.

I'm not your typical Nebraska resident. I'm biracial and gay. But somehow I've got tons of friends and family and coworkers and strangers that treat me humanly and have no problem with the color of my skin or sexual orientation. People actually take the time to get to know me and not make judgements. Yes the simple minded middle of the country hicks somehow manage to not just tolerate me but even enjoy me.

So no, not everyone fits the view you've seen of them. Maybe it's time to find a new circle of people because the ones I know are great and don't fit that mold at all.

DTO Luv, I'm not actually seeing how we are disagreeing. I know that one of my issues here is that I don't have a circle of people at all, which is why I am saying that if someone does they will probably be ok. Omaha is not a very good place to be a loner...that's what I meant by clannish. People who easily bond with others.

No, not everyone in Omaha is a gauche carnivore (love the wording here!) but that doesn't make it any easier to find really good vegetarian fare.

How are we disagreeing?
