While I agree it sucks if you have no off street parking its still your responsibility to park somewhere else. The reality is everyone is screwed if you don't get those cars moved. I'm not sure about Omaha, but in Lincoln they used to have a rotation, where one day cars had to clear street A, thus parking on street B, and the next day they switched. I can't remember exactly how it operated, it may have been a north/south street one day and east/west street the next. Nevertheless, they managed somehow.

Also, in a snow emergency they will ticket cars. I think the towing doesn't occur simply because of lack of resources.

Now I heard that Suttle just yesterday declared the snow emergency for the snow routes - don't understand that timing at all.

Also read in the paper he now wants the State or the Feds to pay for his snow removal just because his budget can't handle it. Don't understand that one - its not like a tornado came through and destroyed homes or a flood came and wiped out complete neighborhoods - its snow - manage your budget.

I got the impression that is why he declared the snow energency. Somehow it's plays into securing state and federal dollars it sounded like.

And in Suttle's defense, his budget was basically streched and torn from the Fahey era to begin with. The extra 1.6 million it takes to clean up after the last couple storms was very bad timing for the state of the city's finances.

In all fairness, this was a VERY unusual snow storm - especially for December. And it was made far worse by the fact that it happened just 2 weeks after we had another snow storm that dumped about 10" of snow on us.

My "old guy neighbor" said he hasn't seen this kind of snow, around Christmas, in over 25 years.

Ha! I am guessing that there are a few of my neighbors that say the same thing about me, although I haven't been in town quite that long, but we sure haven't seen anything like this for quite some time.

Don't disagree, but I still don't see how a previous Mayor's management lets a current Mayor think he nows has a state or federal problem - its still a local problem.

I agree they should have contingency funds for these events, it's not like it's a disaster area or a tornado ripped through. But hey, everyone including private business think federal dollars belong to them nowdays.

So it's the beginning of January, and this is what most of Omaha looks like.

In addition, we're supposed to start getting more snow tonight, and through Thursday morning.

And to add insult to injury, according to the World Herald, places like Moscow, Thule, Reykjavik Iceland and Barrow Alaska are all warmer than Omaha.

Dang!
