Yeah, I hate to sound like a big wuss, but as soon as I'm able to do so, I am moving south. I enjoy snow and all, but coupled with this amount, wind and below zero temps, just isn't for me.

In addition, we're supposed to start getting more snow tonight, and through Thursday morning.

And to add insult to injury, according to the World Herald, places like Moscow, Thule, Reykjavik Iceland and Barrow Alaska are all warmer than Omaha.

Dang!
so when I said "we were sent to Siberia" it was half-true!!! First snow for us so not doing too bad!!! Now, 4-5 more years of this???

From where I'm sitting, that snow pic looks beautiful, but I'm really starting to wonder if I could handle such a climate. I've never personally seen more than 8 inches on the ground at one time. When I learned that Omaha normally receives 25 - 30 inches per winter, I thought it would take some adjustments, like learning to drive in a little snow/ice, etc, but this blows my mind, especially seeing the 10ft + drifts! Isn't your snow total now up to something like 40 inches? I'm sure this will be a season that is remembered for a long time.

BTW, Omaha made the national news this evening (ABC), and they mentioned that no money remains in the snow removal budget. I'm really hoping that you guys and those in the rest of the state get a long break from all this really soon.

It has already been an extremely unusual and rough winter - and it's just starting.

Ya, I've lived in Nebraska most of my mid-30's life and I will say that this is one of the wost winters I can remember. And the entire country is suffering through the cold spell, with freezing temperatures in Miami and much of the south. I don't think you'll have to suffer for 4 to 5 years of it. This is really out of the norm.

Since it's cold, we have to call it "climate change".

DH grew up in Omaha in the 50s/60s; what is going on now is similar to what he describes from back then. Then again, we all remember it a little differently than it actually happened. But he did play hockey on some creek back when he was a kid.
