I read a story about their principal offering to shave her head if the school achieved a 800+ API.

They did. And she went bald.

Sometimes kids just need a little motivation.

I do not think high school kids care about the principal of their high school. I didn't know the name of mine. He did wear white shoes.

Our kids know their principal pretty well. Not as well as I did in high school, but that is a good thing.

Default Canopy Lane

My wife and I are reloing to OC from South Florida - we looked at these homes last week. They are acutually not a bad compromise between the insane Melo Roos and HOA's in the Irvine areas. We have no kids so I couldnt care less about schools, a park, or a pool. They are 'motorcourt' designs, so basically 'detached condos'. About $600,000 for 2300 square feet. Only annoyance is of course the railroad track and trailer park on Alton - anyone know how often that train goes by?

The area around the subdivision is actually nice condiering its Santa Ana ... close to major highways, SoutCoast mall/restaurants, etc.

What do you all think?

You may not care about schools, but odds are whoever you sell to will. SA schools are pretty much the kiss of death. The train goes by most weekday mornings around 8 or so.

Not that I cared about him, but I remember his name to this day, and I graduated some 4 decades ago: Dr. Darell Taylor.

Well, in the case that they didn't care, they still managed to pull an 800+ API.

Do contracters even make homes or bungalows like that anymore? Seems if you want new or newish house they are all 3 bedroom or more and 1500 s.f. and up. Maybe if they made some smaller homes you wouldn't have to pay such awful prices in California.

Its the land and the permitting that's so expensive. That alone costs as much (or more) as a finished house in many parts of the country. When it costs a fortune before you even pick up a shovel, you have to maximize the square footage to make any money.

This development looks similar to many others across OC. There was one about a mile from our condo in Orange where they packed in houses extremely close, then built a high brick wall around them for "security". Of course if you looked out your windows, you either saw a brick wall, the side of another house, or from upstairs windows, maybe you saw the train tracks, warehouses, or a trashy motel. Oh, and another one in Orange behind the WalMart on Tustin Ave. Some of those had views of the trash dumpsters behind WalMart. We referred to that development as "WalMart View Estates at Trash Truck Crossing" lol!
