My boyfriend and I are moving to Laguna Niguel at the end of this month. He has already gotten a job, but I'm still looking to find one. I am a young (21 years old) full time college student, so I will need a job that is flexible. After looking over what's available on Craigslist, I think that it'll be easiest for me to waitress. I've never waitressed before, but I'm a friendly person!

I was wondering if anyone had any information about what waitressing is like out there. I know that tips will vary depending on where you work at, but what is a general idea of what tips may be like?

Are there any places out there that are good or bad? Any places I should definitely look in to or definitely avoid? I saw some reviews about a bar in Laguna Niguel called "Mugs Away Saloon," but was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

Thanks for your help!

It's your basic working class semi dive bar. Their claim to fame is mooning the Amtrak. Also check out Patsy's Irish Pub, one in Niguel and one in Mission Viejo.

Tons of restaurants in OC. You probably would not have too hard of a time finding work doing something entry level like that.

I suggest you begin with a restaurant where younger people go but not too "high end". It is best that you start out where it is a slightly slower pace so that you can get your groundings and feel some competency, then move up to the busyer heavy tipping ones like in "the Spectrum" area. Good luck!

Default Mimi's Cafe

Mimi's Cafe will sometimes take on unexperienced servers...

That being said, this economy has even hit server jobs!
Many restaurants (like the one I work for) are cutting hours and not replacing servers that leave, leaving us with much larger stations... makes sense in theory since the restaurant is slower, but in the end it's hurting us, cause when we do get busy, customers have to wait longer for their food! Duh!
It's also been sending some of us to physical therapy on their dime due to twice as many heavy plates to run out and pick up!
I gotta find a restaurant that uses paper plates! LOL!

Oh well, if you're young and cute you'll have more luck.
Look the manager in the eye, make sure you get a manicure, (no multi colored duck feet!) and for goodness sake, don't go in wearing baggy shorts and flip flops!!!
