Hi
im a recent transplant that has been through coos bay many times over
the past 20 years
my questions are simple :
what is there to do for a single person in coos bay ?
are there places to go where you can actually meet people ?
what kinds of activities do you like to do ?
what kinds of social events are there over the year ?
I realise for those of you who are married it is easy to find things
to do . my questions are more about what kinds of social events
take place where single people will have a way to meet .

The locals call it "Snooze Bay" for a reason.

can not decide what city to move to...have read so many posts & all have different opinions.
Coos Bay??? Florence??? want to be safe, small, cheaper, friendly, warm not too cold in winter, not too much rain, close to good surfing, but have something to do every once in awhile.
Please help can not decide & have to move in a week!!

Most places on the coast are fairly safe. You'll get lots of rain on the coast more so up north. During the summer there is not much rain. I don't know where you are living now but it doesn't get real warm at the coast. Mabe you could check out some of the stats here at city-data for coastal cities. http://www.city-data.com/city/Coos-Bay-Oregon.html

The stats on city data show that Coos Bay actually has a higher-than US average crime rate. Also, you are wrong about the rain, Waterlilly. Rainfall is actually higher on the south coast in most cases.

Average yearly precipitation:
Coos Bay- 64.2"
Astoria- 67.13"
Newport- 67.77"
Brookings- 74.8"
Gold Beach- 79.54"
Port Orford- 74.21"

While it's generally not too cold, it's wet, dark, dreary, and unsafe at this time. Too much serious drug problem, and very little for singles to do here... except try to find a way out.

If you don't believe me... ask my kids. One already left with his family and the other has been dying to leave this area since she was about 10 years old. That was 17 years ago!!! and she still can't seem to get out of here.

The environment is insanely beautiful and our coastline has much to offer recreationally (so long as you don't get hurt). Beauty abounds... but not in the city economics, government, schools, or local attitudes.

I've spent more than 3 decades trying to adapt and accept the decline in most everything. Contemplating running ourselves. If we didn't have the perfect home, rather secluded with good neighbors (a place we can hide out if we like - and we do) we would've been gone years ago!

You're a single guy, and you have to ask that question?

1. Go fishing. 'Nuff Said.
2. Go hunting.
3. Uh....
