Hey Pam that's a good tip for where you live, but when you wake up in the early AM and it's already 95F, on goes the air-conditioning.

Same here. I sleep best in a cool room. It was nice and cool here last night, and I slept like a baby. The hot, humid weather will be back in a couple of days - another steamy weekend expected here. .

Well, that's because you HAVE air conditioning! Some people dont!

I live in a neighborhood where almost all of the houses are old - many over 100 years - and they don't have ductwork systems. Even though many are beautiful, very expensive Victorians, they have no A/C because they have radiant heat and, consequently, no ductwork. Those people really have home-cooling without A/C down to a science. Last weekend I took care of my neighbors' dog while they were out of town. It was over 90 degrees out with high humidity, yet their house was surprisingly cool. They had the windows covered and the interior doors open. They also have transoms over some of their interior doors, and those help circulate air as well. It was amazing, how cool the house was, with no A/C!

All these people talking about keeping their houses cool sure makes me jealous. No need for air conditioning here in England

Oh, people. If you don't do air conditioning, try to go for ceiling fans. They are the best. We do have window fans in the upstairs, to circulate the air and rush the hot air out, but the ceiling fans downstairs (in the livingroom, kitchen, dining room, and one bedroom) are the best. In my area, these are usually all we need.

The basement, however, stays nice and cool. We have GOT to get things fixed up so we can live down there sometimes.

Reading what you have been writing here, I am thinking that when I cook anything this summer, it won't be on the stove; tt will be on the barbie, which is either gas or charcoal, and it has one burner. I just don't want to deal with the heat!

To whoever repped me and said my house must be lovely --- hahahaha. My house is NOT one of the lovely, old Victorians in the neighborhood. My house is crap in comparison. It's a 97-year-old, 2-bedroom frame house that needs a lot of work!
