I used to freeze about ten one gallon water jugs for my pig. I would put 5 around her at a time. She had a fan blowing on her as well. She had a nice shady spot under our deck and we could open the window and exchange the jugs and refreeze the thawed ones. It worked good as she rarely moved from the spot. It was much easier keeping her warm in the winter.
One of the best investments I made when I had this house built was to include ceiling fans in every room. It has made a huge difference even after all these years.
We lose power in these parts when storms come rolling through and so I became a pseudo-prepper. I have battery operated lanterns, fans, weather radio in case of an outage. The fan is a life saver. It keeps my three cats and me coolish in the bathroom when tornadoes are on the way. The last outage in April lasted over 24 hours and I just stayed on a cot in the bathroom with all the cat stuff, some food, water and books. I read through it while being able to tell what was going on via the battery operated weather radio. The fan was a welcome addition. It made all the difference. Cats don't usually like to have air blowing in their faces but my three just loved it.
During the summer months, I try hard to control any boiling, steaming anger, as that generates a lot of heat. Even if someone angers me to the point of violence, in the summertime, I wait to get even with them during the Fall or Winter months!
I'm fortunate to have air conditioning. I remember the days of not having it, especially growing up in NC. We would leave the windows open and listen to the sound of the bullfrogs and mosquitos buzzing around our heads. I'm too afraid to leave them open now, too many weirdos in the world plus they are really hard to open! I would like to air out my house though so I'm thinking of getting a box fan since I don't have any ceiling fans. Guess I need to put WD-40 on those windows! Thanks Pam!
Good tips. I open up the doors to the house first thing in the morning then I close up before the afternoon heat. If I let the heat in I can't get it out. After dinner can open the doors again
Great tips, Pam. I can do okay during the day being warm, but need a cool room to sleep in. During the Summer in Summit we'd put a box fan in the window to pull in the cool night air. I'd like to find one of those here that's made especially for windows to use when it's warmer.
The house I live in now has an upper floor. I need to get some fans placed upstairs to draw out the heated air.
