The Star Spangled Banner w/ the flag waving every night at about 12:30. Then, the (three or four) stations shut down until 6:00 a.m. even in New York City.
Yes! Or the bullseye pattern thingy-followed by that awful tone, and that was all, folks, till morning!
I remember a time in my life before tv's were in every house, and for those few in the neighborhood who did have a tv 2 channels were about all you got..
LOL! Yes, and if you weren't lucky enough to have an inside electric rotor on your antenna, you either had to go outside and manually turn the antenna pole, or watch the same channels all the time. I think we only ever got 3 channels, and one of them was PBS. Maybe that's why I still love watching PBS to this day!
Party line phones go way back. There was the time you turned the crank that made the bells rings.
A combination of short or long rings on the line a certain person was to answer.
Had a antique 1920's wall phone (two actually) still in the family.
Hooked one up to my reg phone (no plastic plug) and dialed my mother with the push button phone and when she answered said my voice sounded wobbly while I was on the antique phone......and yes they still work today if connected.
Your wall phones are probably worth a lot! It's amazing they still work with today's wiring and cables. Our first phone was the heavy black table model and I remember everyone having a particular ring - like morse code!
