this simply was not done back in the 1960's because most people minded their own business and figured it was not their place to say anything or call anyone and do reporting of parents .

My mom has a way of making everything my fault even when it's not. Even still to this day so I try to be careful what I say to her.

Growing up, being the oldest, my parents were the strictest on me. By the time my brother came along, he was #4 and the only boy, so he got away with everything. He was mama's and daddy's boy.

As a teenager, I remember having very negative feelings towards my parents and siblings. In high school, there was one teacher being concerned about me and did nothing because I brushed everything off like everything was okay when it was not. I don't blame her, she didn't know.

From a young age, I felt like the black sheep of the family. The world was against me and had to try survive alone since my family treated me like the "troublemaker" when most of time I wasn't. My siblings were rarely at fault it seemed. We weren't encouraged to be close since my parents played referee anytime there was a squabble.

There wasn't really any physical abuse, however, there was definitely some emotional/mental abuse going on I felt by my parents. My mom was much worse than my dad.

Reading this thread makes me remember how grateful I am for having had good parents, especially my mother.

Similar experience. I used to say I was the black sheep. But someone pointed out that was someone who did bad things, they said I was more likely the scapegoat. That actually fits better. I have been reading about that and knowledge of introverted narcissist (which I think my mother was). My mom didn’t like me specifically my dad didn’t like any of us.

No, I mean the KIDS.
When I was 3 or 4, I got a spanking and the buckle accidentally hit me as I moved, I had a bruise. I called 18004achild, per the TV commercials, and they investigated. It was 1971.

When you're a kid, whatever you've got is "normal." In fact, I actually thought that the loving mothers and sisters with a special bond were just something made up for schmaltzy movies.

I didn't realize how bad my childhood was until I was in my 30s.

I think it depends on the kid, and how that spirit entered the world. My hubby would be more like you.
Me? I knew my situation was not normal since I can remember having memories.

No you can't say that with certainty. Also, as adults we have more power and strength than as children. Where would we go and what would we do?
