Mixed race kids could actually turn out looking "not ethnic". I know of a half-caste Asian/White girl called Ming Chen...problem is she looks whiter than I am & growing up, nobody had ever heard of a "white" girl called Ming Chen. So she always had to expalin that she was not white but Chinese...till she got tired of the whole mess & decided to "pass" for white. She later changed her name to Mimi Cher.

Now if this "Latina" kis turns out to be "white"...she might hve problems in the end.

I smell a Michael Jackson coming her way!

A good number of Latinas are white. Or black. Or even Asian. It's not a race.

I think the poster is 'thrown off' by skin color, not actual bloodlines...but you might know better than me what the deal is. I'm just visiting this place.

This might help her:

Definition of Latino and Hispanic - Which is Politically Correct: Latino or Hispanic?

I don't like the name personally, but it is her child. You voiced your dislike of it, now you have to shut it. If you feel the need to bring it up again, let her know that you know it is up to her, but has she perused any of the beautiful, traditional Latino names... That is all you can do.

And I would personally not let any of the "knocked up by a Mexican" attitude come through to her. Ever.

For what it's worth, I don't like it, either. You can tell her you don't like the name and that's about the extent of it. It's not your baby to name. If she goes ahead with the name, come up with a nickname and hope everyone else adopts it.

I think this is way wrong but can't convince her. What do you think I should do?
That name sounds awful gosh...... Never name a kid like that. When the kid grows up he or she will be very upset... are you crazy? thats like saying White come over here, Black come over here, Latina come over eww! no way!!! sounds so dreadful. Name her Julia, Rosana, Ana, Cristina, or just an american name.

(stinks to high hell, but oh well. Most people probably won't realize that).
