Wrong. It's quite useful. To have that 5K in the bank means I wouldn't be out on the street right away or running up high interest debts if I lose my job or have some other financial misfortune come my way.

When I had my take home pay cut by almost 15% back in 2011 and had my rent increase last year....because I was living well below my means, I could still pay my bills and contribute the same amount to retirement, although the amount I put in regular savings got cut significantly. If I had been living payday to payday like most people, I would be a lot more stressed out than I am.

Not too many people refer to themselves as Dr and then put PHD at the end either.....
