well why not ? with so many ways to get money back today they are throwing away good money on household things . chase offers 5% back on groceries or walmart a few times a year .
why would someone frugal spend so much time clipping coupons but not take advantage of getting 5% back on all their food ? to those of us with an interest in our overall personal finance and not just pinching pennies this has no logic to it unless they have poor credit or can't be trusted with credit .
LOL, a long time ago I used to be a coupon queen but it took time and organization.
Now I used cc and use pts for free flight and hotel. My bills are set up to auto-pay by my cc, then when the cc bill is due, it draws full amt due from my bank acct. It saves a lot of time.
When taking care of mom, her bills straggled in, what a PIA. She applied for a CC and I set her up for auto-pay like I do. It really helped.
I love this thread so much. I just recently got my first credit card and I've been regretting all these years going without one because I didn't want to "spend money that isn't mine" when in reality, the concept is to not spend what I can't afford. I'm building up my credit slowly in order to apply for other cards and reap in the benefits!!
Don't buy anything you can't afford and pay the balance off in full each month or you'll negate the benefit.
There are a lot of good deals for credit cards that offer good travel perks.
Hawaiian airline offers 50,000 miles bonus if you sign up their credit card before 12/31. It charges $89 annual fee at the end of year (that means you can cancel it at the 11th month).
One way ticket for JFK-->HNL direct flight is sometimes down to 30,000 miles even in summer time. And the additional fee is just $20-30.
You can buy one way with miles and you can even pool the miles from your family members without charge.
I flew united from iah to Hawaii and back for 25k, direct was an option for the 25k but we actually went iah-sfo-koa then we flew Kona to Honolulu and hen Honolulu direct to iah did 25k each
Did you cash out and cancel your CSR card or do you still have it??
I downgraded to the freedom unlimited, my wife still has her csr so if the chase portal has better pricing I can move points from my ultimate rewards account to hers to utilize the redemption bonus

50k r/t to Hawaii on United makes sense. The lowest I've seen to Hawaii I think is 45k r/t on United...
