That's a huge improvement over what Toll planned to build. More interesting cladding and massing, and it's nice that they moved the building entrance to the 7th Street side of the lot. I trust that there will be ground-floor retail with its own entrance facing Sansom.

Guess I'll go over to Naked Philly to get the deets and contact the architect.

Philadelphia made a good list!

Philly is the best U.S. city to visit in 2024, according to Lonely Planet travel guide

https://www.inquirer.com/business/to...ly-planet.html

The annual Best in Travel guide is an annual look at countries, regions, and cities across the globe that are must-visit cities based on relevancy, uniqueness, and the “wow” factor that makes them unmissable, said Lonely Planet’s executive editor, Nitya Chambers.

“Philadelphia is the perfect blend of old school and modern metropolis, a city marked by rich history but with an ever-evolving cultural core,” Chambers said. “We were excited by the balance of old and new — museums, history, food, and iconic cultural references — that make it the kind of place that feels instantly familiar but embedded with unique and personal moments of discovery.”

We're still sixth on the 'Rattiest City' list.

Saw it on the news the other night.

Okay, so what? New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago are all ranked higher on the rattiest city list but that hasn't changed their prestige or hurt their tourism industry.

Okay, so what?

I didn't say anything about tourism. I live here, you don't.

But when you pair his remark with cponp's post citing what Lonely Planet (a very popular series of travel guides) says about this city, it kinda underscores gwillyfromhphilly's point, which is lots of people every year enjoy visiting these ratty cities.

Now, maybe this is "a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there." Consider, then, that Kansas City, despite having a crime problem that I believe may be worse per capita than ours, (a) is considered a very good place to live (b) nonetheless produces thousands of expats like me each year who love it to death but much perfer where they're now living and will likely never move back.

You ever take a leak in a Center City alleyway? I'm sure at least one tourist has who won't be coming back ...

Last time we went to Stowe, VT there was a big, squashed rat right in front of the fanciest restaurant in town.

We will not be returning to Stowe.

We now vacation in Alberta, Canada.

Joe

Please send me a picture when you spot your first rat in Banff.

One time I was having lunch in Fells Point, Baltimore, and there were many rats scavenging about 15 feet away from where we were seated. It was definitely the most wild rats I'd ever seen in such close proximity to me. It was so cool to watch them. I took some mental notes on their social behavior. I will be returning to the restaurant in hopes of seeing any progress or changes in their social behavior.
