I see they've discovered the great American incentive scheme.

Lidl has instituted a rewards program. Sign up on their website. You can get coupons. Use your phone when you check out to use their coupons. After 3 visits, when you've spent a minimum of $20 you qualify for a reward.

Anyone out there heard of this off-price grocery chain?

Off-Price Grocery Chain Hopes To Raise $100M With IPO, Open 2,000 More Stores | Bisnow National

From the description of its business model in the writeup, it sounds like the Overstock.com of grocers. (I know of an indie grocer in Bensalem that also sells stuff the regular stores didn't want. You can sometimes get really good stuff really cheap there, and they also have low prices on meats - which they get fresh daily.)

And I see the chain operates in Pennsylvania. I don't know of any stores in this region, but if the company plans to add 2,000 stores to its existing 300-store roster, then I'll bet we will see some Grocery Outlet stores here.

I looooove off-price shopping. "Thrill of the hunt" and all that. You'll probably see me at the first local store when it opens.

Have you ever checked Ollie's? They have a grocery section of shelf-stable items with brands from all over the country.

Where are they located? First I've heard of them.

They're headquartered in Harrisburg. I just checked and they aren't in the city. They are in Bucks County and Camden County.

It's one of the old fashioned type of discount places. Lots of overstock and seconds.

Was visiting a friend of mine who lives in Yeadon yesterday, and he informed me there's one on Chester Pike in Sharon Hill.

He also raved about it - and told me that he had purchased a pound of grass-fed beef (what cut specifically, he didn't say, but from the price, I'm guessing ground beef or one of the leaner cuts) for $3.99. He also said the store has lots of gourmet and high-end brands and products. Which means this should definitely be a thrill-of-the-hunt place.

We will be making an excursion there early next month. I'll report back here with my impressions.

Ollie's? I wasn't expecting that. But then they go into empty storefronts. They may have some stores in former supermarkets. I've only seen canned & package goods. You never know what you'll find in Ollie's. They do have a website where you can check out local sales flyers. Several people who I know in real life and I have found fabulous buys on linens.

I hope you have a wonderful hunt.

I still have yet to find an Ollie's.
