I have friends from cville. Once went to the high school there for an event. The place is HUGE, and very nice Looks more like a college campus. How can such a rundown place manage to have a facility like that.

That poster was highly exaggerating.

CASH was built my sophomore year. They spent all the money on the building and forgot to fund updated educational materials. Their main focus is on sports. Athletes get the most attention and those programs get the most money.

Of course! But this is Chester County which is still the Philly metro. I didn't think there were that many Amish in these areas, I always though they were more in South Central PA.

I would say the area between West Chester and Lancaster has a lot of Amish farms. This is what makes the area attractive for road cycling because there is not much vehicular traffic. There are also a good number of Equestrians on the roads riding their horses. Several times I've witnessed fox hunting expeditions during my bike rides.

You will generally start seeing them in Western Chester county, like west of Coatesville and down by Oxford, Cochranville, etc.

I honestly don't know anything about Chester County other than West Chester since I'd hung out there a few times in the vicinity of the college. It looks like Coatesville is sort of the center of the county. Didn't know there was a town there called Oxford. I've heard people say "Oxford, Pennsylvania" before, but always assumed they were referring to Oxford Valley which is the area I live in.

My fiance and I are looking at that zip code as well. We work east of Philly, so it would still be a commute, but you just can't get as much house or land for the money where we work. We've waffled on the area because of the proximity to inner-Coatesville (which is old and crime-ridden), and a lack of the usual "suburban amenities". However, a 10 minute trip down 30 will take you to Downingtown and Exton. These places cost much more to live in, but have all of the amenities to match the price. If you don't mind hitting the highway for your trips to the movies, outlets or malls, you should be okay (at least from what I've read).

Let me know what else you find out! Sounds like we might be development-neighbors.

Not sure if you're renting or not, but if you're planning on buying in the suburbs, the school district matters. My partner and I live in the city and within the next few years we plan on buying a larger property in the suburbs. We don't plan on having kids, but we want to be part of a community that has upstanding schools to keep our house value up. Good schools generally mean neighbors who care about the town and the upkeep of their home as well.

I don't know anything about Coatesville outside of "stay away". If the town turns around then I think the surrounding areas would look more appealing, but until that happens I wouldn't consider the area.
