First, since most of us live here, we'd be less likely to know about resorts.

Second, three stars out of how many? And who's stars are they?

Third, why Mesa and Chandler, as opposed to Phoenix or Scottsdale?

Fourth, why a resort instead of a rental, maybe via something like Cyberrentals?

The Painted Mountain Country Club has resort activities like guided walks and bocce ball and you can get a massage there. I stayed once at the Hawthorn Suites and it just appeared to me to be an extended-stay hotel with a pool on Chandler Boulevard about midway between I-10 and the Chandler Fashion Mall. Most major activities (golf, horseback riding, gambling) advertised by Painted Mountain seem to be off-property and not hotel-owned, although the hotel can arrange bookings. The Hawthorn has user reviews on its website. There are plenty of resorts in the Phoenix metro area that DO have on-site amenities. Is there some reason why you chose these two places? How do you define "resort"?

Jukesgirl has said it more politely than I would. These are NOT resorts. That they use the term "resort" is false advertising. There's nothing wrong with either property at all, but they are not proper resorts. And not terribly well located if you want to do any touristy site seeing during your visit.

Reason for chandler and mesa is for the reason I will be in Az looking for homes in the chandler and Gilbert area.

Scottsdale would be nice however there alot
More expensive along w a condo rental.

I used to live near that Hawthorn & tried several times to book it for guests but it was always full when they were coming. Its certainly a nice neighborhood & ive stayed in other Hawthorns & always been comfortable.

As a former "road warrior" who travelled extensively for work, i might suggest that a kitchen isnt really necessary in that neighborhood, you could eat out every night for a year there, and never have the same meal. You might find that a mini-fridge and a microwave for leftovers is enough..

If you want to save a few bucks on meals, theres a homewood suites a little way down the street that gives you a pretty decent breakfast and a sometimes *awesome* dinner, along with a kitchenette in the room. I still have dreams about the pepper-steak!

The situation for extended-stay hotels would definitely be better in Chandler than Gilbert.

Both the Marriott's Residence Inn and the Hilton's Homewood Suites have equipped kitchens (stoves, dishes, pots and pans), are well-situated, and you'd have amenities like free breakfasts, newspapers, and wi-fi. There's an Extended Stay America on Chandler Boulevard on the other side of I-10. I haven't stayed in that one, but I've stayed in that chain in other cities and it met my needs fine (yes to the equipped kitchen there, too). Not nearly the same attractiveness level as a Hilton or a Marriott, but a lower price. Other than checking in, you could stay in an Extended Stay America and never see a staff member the whole time you are there. That's a good thing or a bad thing depending on who you are and it means no free breakfast, etc. I got a better price there booking online than calling. You'd probably be able to book the RI or Homewood through a consolidator for a better price than booking direct with the hotel.

The Windmill Suites hotel right next to the Chandler Fashion Mall is really well situated but their "kitchenette" lacks a stove. Small fridge/microwave/sink only. Same kitchen set-up is true of the Embassy Suites, which is technically in Tempe because it's on Rural Road, but that intersects with Chandler Boulevard. You'd get free breakfasts there, too, but could not cook your own dinner unless you are into Lean Cuisine.

if you're coming in the next three or so months, remember that this is our high season and prices will reflect that....
