Im sure a lot of you have seen all the past and future Building going on in Dubai. They were a desert, nothing there and now look at them. One of the most prosperous places and growing to live. Temperatures much like AZ and rainfall also.
I think AZ will adapt more towards the heat issue. One thing i think there should be more of in AZ is parking garages throughout Mall areas and big strip malls and places like Home Depot etc. it would defiantely cut down on the parking lot heat and create more shady areas.

The whole Arabian peninsula is a great example of desert urbanism persisting for millennia. Deserts are a scary thing to most North Americans yet they cover a third of the Earth and people have adapted to them since Paleolithic times.

Civilization started in desert river valleys 9000 years ago where people lived in 100 plus temps for months without AC and prospered and eventually what we call Western Civilization followed.

I seen and read about the sewage system in Dubai... basicly they fogat to built one....
Now it is all trucked out to a giant hoke outside the city, but many drivers dump it in the sea, saving the long drive......

And yes, people lived in the desert for a long time, just like everywhere else, It was not al that great.

If anyone makes a prediction, do not believe him/her. On average, predictions are just plain bad. We are not good at predicting complex systems such as cities, states, GDP, stock market, the weather beyond 3 days, you name it. Anyone claiming they know what's coming is a liar or a fool. Instead, we take those prediction makers way too seriously. Too many variables, to many cause and effect relations, some self-reinforcing, some self-regulating - forget about it. If on top of that there is a political agenda and/or neighboring state rivalry in the mix, any prediction will be pure nonsense and we should treat it as such.
