I don't remember a big building at 19th Ave and Cactus. That's where 19th ave turned to go out around the mountain. On Cactus was a little store called moon valley market. As for Carpettime the guy had such a heavy German accent that it was hard to tell what he was saying. My brother thinks he said "von O five" E. Indian School. 105 would just be a block off of Central. I am not so sure about that.

How many people remember Comptons car wash on Central and Camelback? I worked there in the summer of 1968 if I remember right.
I remember the car wash - my dad took our pontiac tempest there every saturday and always tipped the kid on the vacuum - he had down's syndrome and dad said he did the best job he'd ever had. By the way, we bought our car at 7th street and highland, lol.

My last post of the day: Sombrero Playhouse and the Rocky Horror Picture Show around 1973 or 4. Alice Cooper, who I doubt remembers how he came about getting the name of Alice, played at our house while my parents and us younger kids were out of town. My sisters 'Alice' and Janet were the hostesses. My sister Janet was dating Michael Bruce and I believe they were either the Spiders or the Naz at the time. When we got home from vacation, Glen Buckskin had left something at the house and came by - I got his autograph because he had the longest hair I'd ever seen. My God we were young and silly.

Stevie Nicks has a song from her 1991 Timespace (Best of) cd called "Desert Angel" which mentions Paradise Valley and references Camelback Mtn, though the song is really about the the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm.) i like it very much.

I love these pictures. I see a 53 Buick and a 55 Ford. Is that a brand new Ford?

That Buick may be a '54. Geez what an ugly Buick. My parents had one. The Ford is a fancy one. A two door hardtop. Fairlane? The Crown Victoria came out the next year, I believe. Unimportant stuff.

Unimportant stuff: "Fair Lane" was the name of Henry Ford's mansion and the name came from an Irish area his grandfather was born at.

Roosevelt, you're one classy guy! I went on to think of that ugly Buick and remembered my grandparent's 1958 Oldsmobile. God was that ugly! You put gasoline in the left tail light of the car. If I had any children, they would have been named Powerglide and Dynaflow.
