Going thru background checks and any other tests are a waste of time, if someone decides to "go bad" they will. Look at the latest at Fort Hood, a soldier, who was background checked, fingerprinted, DNA tested, and passed all of them, decided to shoot people, so, how would all those tests do any different on the civilian world ?
Before you say, Oh, you must do this before you can exercise your right to own a gun, think of this, how about you must do the same thing before you can exercise your right of free speech, or any other of your rights. If you must do something before, then it is not a right, it is a PRIVILEGE, driving a car is not a right, that is why you must pass a driving test and get a license. Owning a firearm to defend your life, your families lives, is not a privilege, it is a Right.

This thread is WAY off topic, assuming it ever really was about the title of the thread. If you want to discuss the topic in the title, start another thread.

Issues about police response time, and what they will and won't (or should or shouldn't) respond to or be responsible for, are not limited to Phoenix. These issues are coming up everywhere. If you want to discuss such issues with specific reference to Phoenix, that's for another thread, too.
