BIG - check the radar - decent storms rolling in from south/east. I doubt the rain will get up to Phx/Mesa today - but the dust might!

You won't have to pull off the road on any of the freeways or anything here in the valley, just the outskirts. The only time I ever had to do that here was on the way back from a Fourth of July trip to San Diego in the middle of nowhere. Couldn't even see the hood of my car, scary stuff. But the advice is accurate, you can always see them coming and it is wise to get off the road. They move through fast.

No but it's always a good idea to give your car a good wax and seal right before summer anyways. Also, as tempting as it may be don't leave your windows cracked...that dust gets everywhere.

That's the fun part. The sky can be clear and calm until the wind and dust catch you off guard if you're in a spot where you can't see it coming.

No, it doesn't do either one. Agree that getting a good wax job on the car before summer is a good idea for many reasons.

Once you live here long enough you'll be able to read the clouds in the distance better.
The thunderheads that don't flatten out usually make their way to the valley.

Now that we have radar at our finger tips you can also see which way they are rolling in.

First NONSOON storm of the season...Two factors cause rain from the south and east to dissipate before reaching Phoenix...1) downsloping winds from the south and/or east are DRYING winds. 2) Urban heat island sucking out moisture inside of Loop 202 in the East Valley. Seen too many strong cells over Casa Grande dissipate as they approach Chandler from the south to get all excited...What you get is that song by Kansas from the late 70s here...
