Are there parts of Phoenix which are more or less conservative? Are there parts of town which lean Democrat, etc? Particularly interested in areas like this which are family-oriented (rather than young singles). Somewhere I wouldn't see "W" stickers more than necessary. How about Cave Creek area? Or is everyone just mixed together politically for the most part?

Cave Creek is pretty solidly Republican, as is almost any part of the metro area that far out in the suburbs.

The most politically moderate areas are Central Phoenix and Tempe. Family-oriented areas within those boundaries include North Central Phoenix (bounded roughly by Camelback, Northern, 51, and 17) and southern Tempe (below the 60 Freeway). I live in a neighborhood near the former area and during the 2004 election I saw an even split between W and Kerry lawns signs. To see a majority of Kerry signs probably would have required going south of Camelback into the true heart of Central Phoenix.

Of course, keep in mind that many Arizona Republicans are of the moderate variety. Unfortunately, IMO, it's the extreme right wing faction of the party that tends to dominate in the primaries and therefore remains influential in the state legislature.

I think just about every area will be very mixed. I know a lot of democrats - we tend to stick together, but we all don't live in the same area.

You WILL (!!) see a ton of "W" stickers on the cars out here. I tend to notice a common theme with white SUV's with "w" stickers, and a fish symbol - or a "CCV" sticker (it's a massive "church" in the NW valley.

I notice more W stickers in Gilbert and when I drive into Tempe and Ahwatukee I start to see the opposite.

No matter what part of the valley you live in, this is your salvation. Stream it if you don't live here or listen to it on 1480 kphx a.m. It's the only thing that's saved my mind from living in "this place." Including this forum (the Phoenix part, at least)

Disregard all these posts about this area or that area. Just trust me on this.

So, let's see if I can post this again without being directed to some promo site. www..............novamradio.....com (broken link)

No promo here or spam, just help. You will be directed to like minded people, irrespective of where they happen to live. I live in N. Scottsdale, a very republican area, yet I am far left. Pay no attention to this other stuff about where people live. There are activist updates available on this site, no matter where you live.

Yes central phoenix is a heavily democratic area. My district L15 has 3 incumbant democrats who will be over-whelmingly re-elected.

Yes, i would also consider Central Phoenix to be the most diverse and liberal. Tempe, and areas of Scottsdale also rank high on my list of liberal Phoenix-metro areas. I am gay and live downtown and love the area, love my neighbors and love the diversity. Most of my nearest neighbors are straight and have kids but they are very progressive and tolerant (especially since the rest of the neighborhood is mixed ethnically and with sexual orientation)...even if they are religious. My neighbor across the hall is very religious, but she is a great freind and she loves diversity and the nightllife downtown...but she doesn't drink, go home with men, or dress provacatively, but she doesn't judge those who do in moderation, LOL! I find this a norm in Phoenix and for native Arizonans and Phoenicians...live and let live type of attitude, it's wonderful.

Tempe is like a little pocket of progressive values in the East Valley, especially near ASU. South Tempe is a bit more mixed, but still fairly progressive, and there are both great neighborhoods and schools in that area (though it's pricey to buy or rent).

One thing that self described 'Liberals' have to keep in mind is that many things that were 'extreme Left Wing' by 1950's standards are not only mainstream but have been embraced by many Conservatives.

Interracial dating/marriage
Zero tolerance towards drinking and driving (together)
Acceptance of Gays

One catches my drift.
