Default Why do people move to Pheonix?

As an outsider from the midwest, I have never understood how Pheonix has been growing so fast. What is there to do in Pheonix? What is the night life like? Is there any entertainment at all? Is there any culture? Or is it just one big suburban mess in the hot desert sun like I think it is.... Am I missing something?

No and Correct.

Mental illness is my excuse and I'm sticking to it. BTW, it's Phoenix.

We picked Phoenix to move to when we retired because we are not willing to put up with the cold, freezing ice and sleet, snow, floods, earthquakes and tornadoes that have been a part of other places we have lived through the years.

There are a ton of things to do in Arizona and we wouldn't go back to the Midwest for any amount of money.

I'm trapped by the depression. lol

P.S. It's not that bad, no ice storms *.*

The only reason you don't think there is any culture here is because your not Indian or Hispanic, if you were you would think there was a lot of culture. XD

Isn't that just one big old, rotted, rusty, worn out, depressed abandoned urban area with suburbs surrounding it across flat barren fields frozen over with ice for the next 4 months?.... Am I missing something?

My permanent residence since August 2000 has been in the Phoenix area (South Scottsdale, central Phoenix, and southeast Phoenix near Ahwatukee). I worked in Phoenix 3 out of the last 8 years.

I'm currently working in Los Angeles. I also worked in northern New Jersey and the Baltimore area. But Los Angeles for over 3 of these last 8 years.

I like Phoenix.

I thrive on sunshine and I love the monsoon. I like the variety of restaurants. I have gone to bars in old town Scottsdale and also an invitation-only New Years Eve party at an upscale nondescript Scottsdale place (private club).

There are trashy areas in Phoenix, but I see a lot of trashy areas in Los Angeles and saw some in Maryland and New Jersey as well. I saw nice areas in all the locations too.

I don't get paid for days I take off from work except 6 holidays per year. So I am very terrified of ice on roads. I was always watching the weather when I worked in New Jersey. Was out one day out of ten months and lost $600 because of the snow. When I worked in Phoenix, I worked every day except for my vacation. I like to be in control.

The midwest robs you of potential income when the weather is too bad to travel.

My permanent residence is inexpensive to keep up and pay rent. The tax advantages are better than if I made Los Angeles my permanent residence.

It *is* a suburban mass in the hot desert sun, but then again, most of the midwest apart from Chicago is a suburban mass in the cold plains of corn. There's plenty to do in Phoenix - lots of hiking, good museums, excellent sports, bike trails, and concerts, a strong western and Native American culture. It's not Chicago, but very few places are. And a lot of people in the midwest, particularly the suburban midwest, get tired of the weather and the cold and move to Phoenix.

Simple answer, Vision . . . The Weather!

Stand on a chair and look around the country from The Pacific Northwest all the way The East Coast . . . LOTS OF CA CA WEATHER and all we're forced to endure is a little rain and a few clouds.
