I'd like to see:

1) the sort of business which sells groceries AND a bottle of wine.

2) a book shop which is not a chain and does not sell coffee from Seattle.

3) a quiet and respectable maison close.

For 1, if you're willing to suffer the indignity of a breathalyzer and long-distance scrutiny from Harrisburg, the Giant Eagle at the Waterfront sells both, and beer too. The three would have to be separate transactions though .

For 3, I admit I had to look up maison close and I'm still not entirely clear what you're looking for, but I agree regardless .

This thread could degrade quickly if you start asking for details.

What Businesses Would You Like to See (or See More of) in the Metro Area?
Truck wrecking yards.

25 years ago, there were at least 4 or 5 salvage yards within say a 30 mile radius of Pittsburgh, that spoecialized in salvage parts for medium and heavy duty trucks, and they're all gone. I was talking to a truck mechanic today, and he said he doesn't know of one any closer than Ohio or New York.

I would LOVE to have a Wegman's in the Pittsburgh area. 'Nuff said!

I'm curious how the "high end" stores at Ross Park are doing. I wonder if they've really found a "hidden market" or if it's just mediocre? Otherwise, I wonder what the odds of seeing more high end stores/department stores locate to the Pittsburgh area. Bloomingdale's? Neiman Marcus? How could, say, Ross Park, expand to accomodate even more "high end" development? That mall sure has surged with new and exciting "firsts." Nordstrom, Crate & Barrel, LL Bean, California Pizza Kitchen, etc.

Also, it was rumored that a "Maggiano's Little Italy" was to be built in Settlers Ridge, but we've yet to see that. California Pizza Kitchen was to go to Settlers Ridge as well, but they opened their first location at Ross Park, as mentioned.

It would be cool to see a "Macaroni Grill," more "On The Border" restaurants (only one in Cranberry now). Even on a bigger scale, one to a city deals..."Rainforest Cafe," "Medieval Times." But hey, wish in one hand...

Well, I know Macy's is doing extraordinarily well at Ross Park Mall.
