I skipped school, thumbed down to Washington Blvd and took my permit test on a computer. Passed. Came home with a permit and took my parents a couple of days later. My parents seemed to think it was magic that I had one. I drove with my parents for a week and took the driving part and passed. Back then it was common for kids to drive at a much younger age prior to having a permit and we may have done that on some back roads. Don't think I would do that now, since the police would throw down the law, instead of a slap on the wrist. Just different time. I did study for the test and Washington Blvd., was considered a difficult place to pass the driver's test.

The OP on this subject is nothing like my mindset when I took my permit test and wanted to be a driver out there on the road. I wanted to know as much as I could before I was a solo driver. No shortcuts. We have enough crap drivers with out a clue as it is. Most drivers in the US would fail in Northern Europe as drivers. They wouldn't know enough about the laws and proper driving. It is shocking how bad motorists are in the US in comparison to places like Scandinavia. They actually obey the laws and take it seriously.

Ah well, I am hoping the OP fails a few times, so he will get the idea that it isn't a joke and find a way to squeak by.
To the OP, don't be discouraged by h_curtis' typical negavity. You'll be well prepared for the exam.

I don't recall ever taking a permit test, only for the license, and no computer. Potential drivers were lined up almost all the way to Allegheny River Boulevard on Saturday mornings to try for their licenses. A number of people went to East Rochester or Butler to test, as both were less busy, and had reps for being easier to pass.

The ironic thing is that after the test is over and you have your license, the real learning begins. There is no experienced driver to watch over your shoulder anymore.

No computer for me.

I remember studying like mad, having family quiz me... I knew that manual inside and out.
The trooper asked me questions, and I popped the answers out immediately. That must have ticked him off though, as my last question was "How far apart are your headlights?". I blinked, speechless, and he looked smug!

So I passed, with one wrong answer.
In East Rochester, BTW.

Either the drivers exams have gotten 10x more difficult since I took the test or the OP absolutely adores attention and relishes drama.

When I was 16, I reviewed the manual a few times, took the test, and passed.

Make sure you stop before a stop sign and not slightly past it. At some intersections you may not be able to see oncoming traffic from you stopped position, so you then pull forward and stop again.

Making the initial stop after the sign is probably the biggest reason people fail the driver's test, although it is a common thing to do after you get your license.
