No way does Century III mall go down the toilet. The thing was built on slag dumps, so it's a Green Space actually and is way ahead of it's time.
It's impossible to recall the actual impact that the mall had on businesses but areas like Homestead were urban blights while nothing near C3 seemed to follow suit.
Malls are still being born all the time. Only in very bad economic principals, typically the area around it being run down too and that is simply not the case here.

Who cares! let it close. We could all use less malls! Then maybe everyone will go back to shopping in the main streets of the towns.

History always repeats itself. That mall (like many others in the area) was built around the time of the sprouting of the suburbs after the baby boom. The idea was to have each suburban area have it's own shopping area and other amenities, to make it a small city. The trend has shifted from suburban enclosed malls to outdoor city shopping and open air shopping centers (IE The Waterfront), which it what the scenario was before.
I'm sure in due time then trend may shift back to the shopping mall. It's really a shame that C3 has gone so far downhill. It seems like not long ago I was hanging out there almost every weekend and it was THE place to be. Tons of people, every spot was filled. I remember when it used to have a climbing wall and we'd always hear it advertised on the radio as the mall to goto.

What about my favorite jingle:
"Century III...Chevrolet...Lebanon Church Road, Pittsburgh. MINUTES FROM THE MALL!"
Now what will it be minutes from? They should leave it open just for that lol

How about "minutes from the big slag pile behind Circuit City!"
Not as catchy, is it?

Absolutely correct; there's NO chance of it closing down anytime soon... In fact, Simon Properties (the owners) have recently invested quite a bit of $$$ to update the facade and help bring in new tenants.
Of course, it's been "for sale" for years, but I think Simon realizes that they won't get anything near the real value in today's economy, so it's cheaper and more to the point to reinvest in it and recreate it, for the millenium...
