Very dangerous to call that man an Uncle Tom. He's done too much good in this world and it would definitely raise African-American tension, between those AAs who "made it" versus the ones who live day to day on government cheese and are unmotivated to surpass their expectations.
That article is from 2004 so it isn't current. Have no idea if Bill Cosby is still making the same speeches but it seems to have had little effect as hip hop culture is still alive and kicking. Nevertheless, I have great admiration for Bill Cosby and think he is very brave to do this.
OK, it was 2004.
He was right then, and he is still right today!
No matter what your skin color, YOU control your destiny!
You can become a productive member of society, or you can sit around and moan "Oh, poor me!" and never amount to anything.
The choice is yours.
Good luck.
Bill is spot on. Wish half my community(Hispanic) had their own Bill Cosby, they could learn a thing or two. I get so tired of seeing the pants hanging down to their knees and ball cap turned sideways. I had a cousin who came to my house looking like a punk(with the pants and the hat thing). I asked him, " So, when did you start liking men?" He was like "what?" So I asked him again, and then proceeded to give him a little history on the whereabouts(prison prostitutes) of that type of dress. By the end of conversation he was asking me for a belt and had turned his cap around(bill facing front and center).
I am Black and most Black people I know agree with Bill Cosby.
Why is it necessary for non-Blacks to take the few criticisms against what Bill Cosby is saying as the opinion of the whole?
ETA: This reminds me of something that the media tends to do. Whenever they want to get the "Black perspective" of anything, they always go down to the projects as if the residents of the housing projects speak for all facets of Black America.

Because most of the criticisms come from the so called leadership within the black community who abhor change, because without this controversial behavior there would be little racism, therefore, they ( Big AL and Jessy) would be out of a job. They thrive on this stuff.
Only children would continually blame someone else for there problems, that everyone else is always keeping them down. They need to grow up like he champions. He just didn't tell them what they want to hear so he goes out the door.
