Because they really are not peace loving people. They want to take over the planet and make you become a believer or lose your head.

Exactly. They only want peace if you conform to there religion and even then they kill each other. Shiites vs. Sunni is a prime example.

Sorry but I'm a realist. Politics is a part of the world we live in. We declare ourselves to be a country of religious freedom. Legally, they have the right to build a mosque there. That's America. You don't have to like it but you have to respect their right to build a mosque there. The Muslim world is paying attention and seeing if we are a bunch of hypocrites. It has nothing to do with threatening violence or terrorism if we don't do what they say. That's just the wing nuts exploiting this to suit their agenda of generating anti-Islamic feelings. Sorry but those of us with a brain and can think for ourselves will not allow ourselves to be manipulated. I'm a Conservative but I'm not a member of the Christian Taliban. And yes, the Islamic community needs to do a better job of calling out violent fundamentalists in their community. However, there are idiots on both sides of the spectrum. You are seeing one side in the responses above.

I agree completely. I am not drinking the kool-aid that some say "they will take over America".

The religion is not peaceful---it's that simple. Just take an objective look at it. The koran is full of commands to kill the non-muslim.

Also take into account that if the number of "extremists" is really so small....why are most terrorists muslims?

This guy's statement was a veiled threat (thinly at that). What this guy says is followed by far more than 'moderate' muslims. He speaks to the radicals.

If any NY politician had the balls they'd pull the property from him for making a terrorist threat. Where the h*ll is Big Sis on this threat? That's what they do if they deem an American making such a threat.

What is happening in this country is two standards are being created. Muslim and 'the rest of us'. And elected officials everywhere are pandering to one side, it ain't 'the rest of us'.

Actually, two classes are being created, us (the serfs) and the elites (feudal lords). The elites for now have aligned with the muslims to eradicate what the serfs hold dear, freedom from tyranny. What will be interesting to observe, however, is that once our voice is eliminated, the elites and muslims will be at each other's throats to vie for power.

I have read a lot of books about the Middle East and Islam. As a result, I am highly suspicious of Islam in general. Islam is NOT just a religion, it is a religious system, a legal system, a govt system and a culture. There is NO separation between church and state in Islamic countries.

You can track every country that has had an increase in it's Muslim population. First, they are very unobtrusive, then as their population swells, they make more and more demands, then you get something like the riots in France. The more you give, the more they take. And a country like the United States that professes to be inclusive and tolerant is ripe for the taking.

LOL @azriverfan calling himself a conservative while throwing around liberal-invented epithets like "Christian Taliban".

Actually, you have that a bit garbled.

There is no separation of church and state in Islam, true. But the vast majority of Muslim (a more accurate label for most than "Islamic") countries have traditionally managed to make that separation anyway.

There are only a handful of Muslim countries that are not secular to some extent in terms of the government and their legal systems. Most understand that shari'a is really not a very effective system for governing a modern nation-state.

This is, of course, pure fantasy. The number of cases where Islam has taken over a country by any means other than direct military conquest is tiny. Sure, we have the great glaring exception of Indonesia... the most populous Muslim country in the world. But even it did not follow the pattern you prescribe here.

Of the 39 majority Muslim countries on the planet, all but 35 of them became Muslim at the spear point of invading Arab armies. Not by some gradual Islamization from within.

Unless you are expecting a successful invasion of the United States by Saudi Arabia, Islam is not an existential threat to us.

I didn't say anything about Islam 'taking over' a country, just becoming a large enough minority to cause major problems.
