Kids are mistreated by other kids. If there is no valid reason, the other kids will invent a reason. It will be no different for this kid than if he was too tall, too short, too fat, too skinny, too nerdy, has red hair, has glasses, has braces, etc.
I was chubby with curly red hair AND glasses, so imagine the teasing I dealt with as a kid/teen. I'm Jewish too, but that wasn't a big deal at my school (lots of us there). But the teasing only made me a stronger person, and the type who will ALWAYS stand up for the underdogs. I think most kids who are teased end up better for it, as opposed to the bullies & "A-list types" who can become arrogant/entitled adults. Not always, of course, it's just a commonly observed pattern.

This kid is going to have it much better than most kids, since he is going to be from an affluent family and will likely go to private schools where the cross-section of students is much different. He probably won't even be the only kid in his school with gay parents.
Exactly... he'll probably go to an artsy private school in London or NYC, surrounded by other kids from "different" backgrounds. Kids are also more accepting these days, believe it or not - even at the urban public school where I used to work, gay students were bothered little. Of course this was in San Francisco, but I imagine it won't be much different wherever Elton & his family live.
Don't get your knickers in a twist over the private lives of super rich celebrities. It's a distraction and side show that doesn't affect you. It doesn't impact the economy, national security, unemployment, your benefits, your job, or immigration. It only benefits media outlets who manufacture faux outrage to attract eyeballs and more ad revenue. Focus on the important stuff not the fluff.
Yea lucky kid...hey my dad likes other men....yea how lucky...would you want to tell someone my dad sleeps ....no has sex with men!!! I don't think so!!!

What do you all think of a 62-year-old man having a child?
I have to wonder if the social conservatives who praised Elton John for being in favor of civil unions instead of same-sex marriage will also praise him for having a child at his age - not to mention the fact that he is gay.
I find that quite sad, actually. The kid will likely grow up very confused. Nevermind the fact that it likely used in vitro, which has some moral issues in itself.
To each his own, but I think it is a bad idea for anyone to have children very late in life. Those children could end up living more than half their lives without their parents. It nice to have parents and then grandparents around to share your life with, sad and lonely when they are gone.

Why else would anyone open a discussion like that in the politics forum?
No, it's not that simple. My first reaction to the story was negative, but then I thought that maybe I was being too quick to judge. I wanted to see what others thought.
Everyone knows Elton John is gay, so there's no need to debate that. What does interest me is the question of whether it's a good idea for a 62-year-old gay man with a history of drug and alcohol abuse to be having a child.
