Remember the 2008 election? The Democrats when into Congress and did exactly what they said they'd do. Some may not like that, but they actually accomplished a great deal of what they had promised.
The modern-day, Neo-Conservative Republican's, on the other hand, are doing exactly what they've done after every election since 1980: Giving their supporters the finger and figuring they'll forget it once again in 2012.

That, my friend, DID NOT HAPPEN. I think there were more back room deals made in the past two years with regards to bills passed that we found out about AFTER the bills were signed.

It was transparent, you just didn't like what you saw. A Congress helping American people deal with extremely bad times.
Point is they are not going to cut spending because they are not going to touch the tea folks favorites: medicare and social security. Their figure of $100 billion is based not on the actual budget, but on the submitted budget. As we all know, a submitted budget is DOA when it reaches the House. If they follow their former example when they controlled the House and Senate, spending and growth of govt. will increase. The Federal govt. has not reduced its size since Coolidge was President. Bush and Reagan promised the same thing as the GOP says it will do, yet the govt. grew under them. For example under Reagan, the budget for the Dept of Education, which Reagan promised to abolish, doubled to 22.7 billion, Social Security spending rose from $179 billion in 1981 to $269 billion in 1986, farm programs $21.4 billion in 1981 to $51.4 billion in 1987. The list goes on and on. Even the hated foreign aid went up by 120%.
I stand by the GAO report which says over half of businesses in the US pay no Federal income tax.
Wanna balance the budget? Simple, but just try to cut medicare or social security. Perhaps they should end these stupid tax breaks for business which is nothing more than corporte welfare and ending them would be in line with conservative laissez faire economics, end the child tax credit for any more than 2 children and end the cap on the social security tax (a progressive tax system is one of the hall marks of capitalism as stated in the Wealth of Nations) and put a freeze on new programs.
Well that is ridiculous. Medicare and SS are squarely in the headlights as anyone who follows politics knows.
A progressive tax system is a economy killer as we saw in the 70's.
Please produce the GAO report. My guess is you are conflating corporations with subchapter s companies. The later pays taxes on thier profit as ordinary income. See the post above.
