Think again. That is what the tea folks hysteria was all about though the budget cuts will affect working men and women. All we heard was cut the budget and taxes. People forget that according to the GAO, over 55% of all businesses pay no income tax. That includes companies like Exxon which had over $30,000,000,000 (billion) in profits and claimed a Federal tax credit in the millions.

Huh? And how does one word of what you wrote apply to my post?

By the way most businesses are small businesses and certainly do pay taxes.

The study showed that 28% of foreign companies and 25% of U.S. corporations with more than $250 million in assets or $50 million in sales paid no federal income taxes in 2005. Those companies totaled a combined $372 billion in sales for the largest foreign companies and $1.1 trillion in revenue for the biggest U.S. companies.

But many of the companies the report found had paid no tax were likely small businesses that pay other taxes. Generally, many small firms, because they do not have shareholders, are able to shift corporate income to individual income.
Majority of corporations avoid federal income taxes - study - Aug. 12, 2008

Point is they are not going to cut spending because they are not going to touch the tea folks favorites: medicare and social security. Their figure of $100 billion is based not on the actual budget, but on the submitted budget. As we all know, a submitted budget is DOA when it reaches the House. If they follow their former example when they controlled the House and Senate, spending and growth of govt. will increase. The Federal govt. has not reduced its size since Coolidge was President. Bush and Reagan promised the same thing as the GOP says it will do, yet the govt. grew under them. For example under Reagan, the budget for the Dept of Education, which Reagan promised to abolish, doubled to 22.7 billion, Social Security spending rose from $179 billion in 1981 to $269 billion in 1986, farm programs $21.4 billion in 1981 to $51.4 billion in 1987. The list goes on and on. Even the hated foreign aid went up by 120%.

I stand by the GAO report which says over half of businesses in the US pay no Federal income tax.

Wanna balance the budget? Simple, but just try to cut medicare or social security. Perhaps they should end these stupid tax breaks for business which is nothing more than corporte welfare and ending them would be in line with conservative laissez faire economics, end the child tax credit for any more than 2 children and end the cap on the social security tax (a progressive tax system is one of the hall marks of capitalism as stated in the Wealth of Nations) and put a freeze on new programs.

Promise them anything to get into office and we have a majority of suckers out there with voter cards that believe them time after time after time after time.

Excessive spending's like the weather, everybody talks about it but when's the last time anyone did anything about it? Everybody thinks cutting spending's a good idea, just not any of the spending that affects them. I'm not expecting any significant cuts by this group, just another Dog & Pony show while business as usual is conducted.

This House will be Symbolic and pointless. I think we need to get used to the fact, there will be nothing accomplished. Just think and work for 2 years from now.

That just might be better than reckless spending that we've done for the past two years.

Well, two of us do have employer health insurance and will have to pay income taxes on what they spend for us.
You never were going to lose your tax cut, and the rich got theirs, it was the Repubs that said they would not extend them unless the rich were included.

Bob, NOBODY in history has ever blatantly broken more promises than community organizer obama.

So why don't we just call it a draw?
