I'd say overall the U.S.A have been the "good guys" since WW2. The U.S.A has played some bad politics getting into bed with some bad leaders and regimes , but I guess the situation at the moment dictated to do so like helping Sadam over Iran. But obviously sometimes it came back to bite.
Recently when N Korea shelled the S Korean island I was rather taken by some of the remarks said on this forum, although it may have been from the 101 chair borne commando types. I read thoughts of "are we America pussified?, are we going to let them do that to
us ?" We should be bombing and kicking the crap out of N Korea".
What was interesting was no thought about what S Koreans would want was mentioned, it was "us" the U.S.A that was supposedly being humiliated. Not one bullet or shell landed on a American yet they were calling to charge into war with N Korea. No thought toward how war with Korea might make bad unintended consequences , the same charge in and get 'em type thinking we did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
So I'd say yeah, while some complain about being the policemen of the world and complain about the U.N, often the same seem to actually like being the powerful in that position and are going to be coming down hard with withdraw in ego when we no longer are or can be.
