BS ... the average 8 year old is under 4 feet tall and weighs less than 60 pounds. Any semi-competent adult would be able to bring him under control without resorting to pepper spray, etc.
Sure, you could have talked to him....
As he is jabbing your eye out with the piece of wood he RIPPED from wall....
Now now little johnnie..you know your not suposed to stab people in the eyes...
Any mother who has tried to put a screaming, tantruming 30 lb 2 year old into his carseat against his will KNOWS the power and strength of a small creature!
The larger issue here is that the mother is a complete incompetent. And where is the father??? Always the same old question . . .
Oh, and the even larger issue, which no one has yet mentioned, is the idiocy of the media, who invited this disturbed kid and his incompetent mother to be ON TV. What a reward for being a thug-in-training! He'll be sure to pull more stunts in the future.

A pit bull is even smaller than "the average 8 year old". Do you think you could hold back a pit bull on the fight? My own son (10 years) has anger issue's and I can tell you from experience, when he has an anger outbreak it is impossible to physically control him. The kid on the news had the cops called on him twice before. God forbid the schools get smart and start dealing with these kinds of problematic children. These out of control kids are a threat to the entire school...the students, teachers and parents. I get some funny looks when my son has an anger outbreak and I throw cold water on him. Guess what? It works. He stops screaming, throwing things, hitting brothers, breaking things and is able to calm down faster than if I were to TRY holding him down while telling him "Now son, we use nice words and please don't hit Mommy with that shovel". My opinion is that the permissive, anti-responsibility, work-the-system master's and incompetent parents are the main reason our educational system is spiraling downward. The cops in this case deserve an "atta boy". If the kid does it again, pepper him again and give the moron mom a tissue and tell her to stop her whining and be a parent!
Seriously .... what kind of wimps are you adults that you don't have the ability to bring an 8 year old under control without a complete over reaction.
Over reaction is very debatable. Pepper spray is non lethal and leaves no permanent injury... it sucks! I have been sprayed! But to say they should have used, the only other alternative, physical force...idk... Who wants to see two or more cops holding throwing an 8 year old to the ground.. People would be judging them no matter what they did because most people are ignorant.. They have not experienced a real out of control child who maybe suffers from mental illness..
I was in law enforcement and its hard to say what you would do in the same situation.. I had a 10 year old once holding his mother in a corner with a baseball bat... 10 can be a lot different then 8 but you just don’t know..
As a parent, and adult, and former law enforcement I could very will see that depending on the circumstances, using mace was exactly what this kid deserved and what was appropriate..
Wow whack someone coming from an 8 yr old. Seems trouble on the horizon, because this young boy already has a temper hard to control, not good. But was their not a better way to handle him he is only 8 then to pepper spary him.

his/her kids probably don't need any help, they are probably being raised to learn responsibility for their actions, and how to be a normal kid, not some weapon wielding insane asylum reject trying to "Whack" someone.

Why is this kid allowed in a public school? The school has a responsibility to provide a safe learning environment. That's impossible with kids like this around.
Perhaps the bigger issue is that the parents are obviously incapable of parenting. Why hasn't he become a ward of the state? Enabling this behavior is only hurting the kid.
