He got away with it because the original warrant was for illegal weapons. When the ATF attempted to serve the warrant shots were exchanged between ATF agents and those inisde the compount.
People are going to tend to support law enforcement apprehending those individuals shooting at law enforcement officiers when they execute warrants for illegal weapons.
