Not only do we not "Not negotiate with terrorists" we create, fund, and otherwise nurture them. Osama Bin Laden the most notorious and infamous terrorist the world has known was a product of the CIA. LMAO! America continues to be the land of hypocrites and irony.
Agreed...we have been "Negotiating" with terrorists since the 1970's.
Except when we negotiate with them we call them "Freedom-Fighters".
We've been holding talks with various Taliban elements for years. Secretive (though not entirely secret) meetings were being held between US officials and Taliban spokesmen in the UAE way back in 2005/6. It hasn't succeeded so far, but, if we're going to withdraw from the area anyway, it's not like the various Taliban factions can be ignored when it comes to Afghanistan's future.
Or to put it another way... what's the alternative?
Are you saying U.S. government representatives were in tents, sitting on fine silk Afghan carpets, drinking tea and smoking dried leaves; while front line Taliban terrorists were blowing American troops up into itty-bitty pieces with IED car bombs.

Reason: ...
It's so hollow to hear conservatives still trying to claim Obama's weak after he's killed OBL, killed his first successor and continues to strike in Yemen in attempts to get Al-Alaqui. The Obama is weak schtik is dead. Stick to the economy while you can.

In the UAE? Probably a conference room of some sort at a third-party embassy.
Quote:
So what are we doing to do..talk to and pay off each faction to "leave us alone" ?
More or less. That was the foundation of the "Iraq model," in any case.
Iraq is still at war, and still suffers daily attacks of various types, and American soldiers are still killed there occasionally... but for our purposes, that's "good enough."

Our purpose was to get Sadam. We don't care what happens to the country.
We're just throwing out money and hoping it quiets down.
We'll do the same with Libya.
We are pouring billions into various ME countries and we NEVER leave 100%.
Well yeah. It's a budgetary calamity for the most part, but, we already gave the tarbaby a good solid punch. Now we're stuck in more ways than one. And not everyone is unhappy about this, especially if it has meant a bigger budget, or bigger contracts.

The military industrial complex I'm sure, is quite happy the way things are going.
I think it was simply a form of cognitive dissonance on the part of elected representatives who can't tell the difference between the common defense and the common offense, from the beginning; we already surrendered to the evil drug empire which kills more US citizens every year than simple Vandal imitators.
