Wow - those figures are something I have never seen before. I researched UK physician salaries as late as 2009 and found the average physician makes under $200K US a year.

Thank you for sharing that info.

Why is it that the people using mecicare are looked upon as some kind of "scroungers"?
People pay for medicare all their working lives and are funding most of it (unless it's spent on other things) so there should be no cuts.
If a National Govt funded health service was created in the USA there would be NO need for medicare/aid, vet health etc etc. Unemployment would drop significantly too.

The figures normally quoted for Doctors salaries are NHS salaries. This does not include any private earnings etc. G.P.'s are also paid for each patient on their books too.

Ohhh....well you would go to the hospital most likely,or perhaps a clinic first and then if needed the hospital...

Personally I could count on one hand the number of times I have been to either in my adult years.

Doctors already have a union-like organization that has a lot to say about policies concerning the practice of medicine. It is called the American Medical Association and it is more than just a place for Doctors to socialize!

If you don't have insurance, you are basically screwed unless you can pay out of pocket. If you are on Medicare, then you can get treated.

I have a friend who had no insurance, and kept putting off going to the doc b/c she couldn't afford it (she was unemployed). She eventually collapsed and was taken to a hospital ER. She did not qualify for Medicaid b/c she owned a car and a very small home (in need of repair, may I add). She was diagnosed w/ uterine cancer.

She was treated but racked up big hospital and doc bills. She is still out of work but has the hospital and docs hounding her for $$$ - she has worked out "payment plans," but has no more money to pay her utilities, much less a physician. She has used up all her savings and is trying to get a job - any job - despite her frail health.

So there ya go. That is what happens when you do not have insurance, are too young to qualify for Medicare . . . and do not qualify to get Medicaid.
