Maybe that's the level of teaching for home schoolers, but after first grade, most people want their kids to learn more than "see spot run".

I was a bit beyond "Dick and Jane" when I was 6. And even Dick and Jane had "Mother and Father" characters--is that too sexually suggestive for you?

Interesting how so many conservatives here have so little respect for states rights. They don't even live in California, yet they believe that they have a right to dictate how the state is run.

Nobody is dictating anything. This is an opinion forum and some are expressing their opinions. Don't like it don't read it.

If a state decided to teach that homosexuality is wrong and I criticized the state for it, many of these same conservatives would be screeching about states rights and telling me to shut up.

Excuse me I live in California. Just because I respect the right for a state to determine its educational curriculum does not mean that I have to agree with it or not work to get rid of the parts that are worthless in my opinion. That's MY right as a Californian.

Wrong is the wrong word. Unnatural is a better description. I would tell you your position is wrong. I would never tell you what you can or cannot say.
