I don't think it is a conservative vs liberal issue to begin with. The government is responsible for certain things, and providing security is one of them.
Hatred for government as an institution is a conservative paradigm. They believe in magic... that only private enterprise can deliver for their best interests. Just don't tell them about Mussolini also saying so.
It seems that a common theme is that the TSA is a bunch of goose-stepping Nazis bent on taking away our freedom. So...what should the alternative look like? Should we can the whole thing and just let anyone with a ticket get on the plane, no questions asked? Or should we go back to the same security setup that let those guys with box cutters onto planes? What's the better setup?
Terrorism is just an excuse to spend $$$ and support the military industrial complex
including 9/11 not all that many US Citizens ever died to it or were threatened by it

Homeland Security was created via the Patriot Act which was bipartisan.
Both Dems and Repubs wanted DHS. And all parts of the Patriot Act have been renewed since by both Congress and the President.
I think conservatives are fine with giving up their freedoms as long as the power lies with the private enterprise. And then they turn around and point fingers calling their opponents: Fascists.
You can choose whether or not to patronize a private company. Gov't mandates are a whole 'nother beast.

We don't need to screen people for weapons today. It is not possible to repeat 911 regardless of what weapons you carry on board.
Metal detectors, random pat down, and x ray checks of your baggage.
The reason 9/11 hijackers got into the cockpits is because they were LET into the cockpit. Yes, on the plane they got through security with small box cutters, but they were let into the cockpit.
As a rule, no one should be allowed into the cockpit once in flight.
