So, I guess the message here is that a good conservative and politically correct 14 year old should not use the word 'gringa', because it might hurt the feelings of a thin skinned republican white man. Is that pretty much it? Unbelievable.

I have not attacked this girl in either of my posts, other than musing that she may want an easy class. Lots of kids do that; nothing new there.

I found it difficult to believe that she cannot speak spanish when both of her parents speak spanish. How did they raise her? That makes no sense. If you have children, try to think about how you would raise them if they spoke another language. It's ridiculous.

And now you are telling me that because she speaks english, her parents don't have to take english classes...???? So, she's teaching them english?

Make up your mind..this poor family...they can't speak to one another, NOT.

No ... our skin has been as thick as a new york strip .... we're just sick and tired of the absurd double standard.

Believe it.

I think you have summed it up perfectly.

As strange as it seems, I've met people like that. The parents speak minimal English and the kids speak minimal Spanish, usually Spanglish, which is basically making up words.

It sure don't sound like it. Six pages of tears over the words of a 14 year old kid.

I know such kids too. They learn perfect English at school, and speak English at home although both parents are Spanish speaking. Believe it or not, but many parents learn English though their kids. At the same time the kids Spanish is not as strong, and they talk more like gringos, than latinos.

I'll take your word for it, but still find it very hard to believe.

She's doing the right thing, then. But, she didn't have to be insulting about it, and her parents CAN take classes to learn english. She should be encouraging them to learn HER language!

I'm guessing that among 'the European criminals' you include the Spanish Conquistadors. I mean, I'm guessing that the natives weren't speaking Spanish then, were they?
