Actually the end result of people fending for themselves was stronger families, churches, communities, and helping institutions. The result of the so-called safety net is a general weakening of these mediating institutions as the government seeks to do that which it was never designed to do--and does it poorly and to the detriment of those it purports to help specifically and of society in general.
Here, here! I wholeheartedly agree, families sure were STRONG when there was no help for the poor, no food stamps or medicare or welfare of any kind!
I mean sure infant mortality rates among the poor were 25!!!!!!! times as high and barely half of the poor grew to adulthood, but GOSH DARN THEY SURE LOVED JESUS!
Acting like taking away the social safety net will actually benefit the poor is a lie told by selfish people who just want more of theirs.
If you're against helping the poor, at least have the SELF RESPECT to not LIE and say you're against it because you simply don't give a rat's ass about the poor and you'd rather keep more money for yourself... don't try and act like you're helping anyone by taking away their much needed assistance.

If these nut jobs wanta kill the safety net they should start hiring the recipients of that aid. Once they have hired everyone there would NOT be any need for that net.

BS. Your arguments are irrational and you're making connections where none exist. You don't even seem to have a grasp of what cronyism is yet you keep slinging the word about. You want me to argue on your terms and those terms include redefining half the language to suit your understanding. Sorry but it doesn't work that way.
Negotiating a deal and a politician being bought are not even close to the same anywhere but in your mind.
One and the same.
Gotta luv the wingnut double speak... When they employ crony capitalism it is "working a deal" and when the dems do the same thing it is a political on the take.

I'd honestly just settle for them admitting that they want to take it away because they are cold hearted bastards and don't give a flying f what happens to the poor as long as it means a modest reduction of their taxes.
This ridiculous song and dance about how taking away welfare programs will actually HELP the poor and make them more self reliant is just so absurd it infuriates me.
I've NEVER had to explain away ANY of my political beliefs with some double talk bs like this. If a person can't even voice the true motivation behind their political beliefs without spinning it and lying about it, then perhaps that tells you a little something about integrity of that idea.

A permanent safety net does nothing but weaken a nation and create a permanent underclass dependent upon the give-me-ment. It's no different than legalized slavery.
Nobody benefits in a nation where 1 in 8 are on food stamps. Nobody benefits in a nation where millions are on unemployment for two years while millions of illegals work the jobs Americans used to do before they became the jobs "Americans just won't do."
FDR's so-called "safety net" in his landmark Socialist agenda of The Great Society was created in order to justify the creation of the federal income tax. The federal income tax was created to feed the wealth of the nation into that private bank called The Federal Reserve. Thus our economy changed from one based on creation to one run on the demand for debt (creation of credit).
You've got your presidents and programs mixed up. FDR had "The New Deal". LBJ had "The Great Society".

Really? If that's the case, maybe our economy will boom again. That's how we did it the 1st time!!
If you live that way in America, with bountiful opportunity, you have chosen poorly.
