The right-wingers on this board love to compare Bill Maher with Ted Nugent. They say President Obama needs to denounce Bill Maher.
1. Obama never courted Bill Maher for his backing and Obama never publicly stated how much he appreciated Maher's support. Romney did court Nugent and said how "fun" it was to get to know the nut-job Nugent.
2. Bill Maher says things that may offend some, but he doesn't allude to violence--calling someone a c%^& isn't the same as saying that the sitting president should "suck on his machine gun" as Nugent said.
3. Bill Maher is actually funny and intelligent. Nugent has the maturity of an eleven year old boy, isn't funny and trades in dangerous rhetoric.
I suspect that most of the right-wingers have never even seen Bill Maher.
I have to admit that I never would have thought that I'd ever see a thread that managed to find a reason to compare Bill Maher and Ted Nugent, and keep in mind, I have been waiting for a thread that for some reason compared Kenny Rogers and Billy Crystal. Maybe the day will come when I will get a thread comparing me with someone... John Holmes maybe. We'll just have to wait and see, huh?

You'll do anything to defend your Republican poster boy, Ted, won't you? Are you REALLY going to try to do a class comparison between Ted Nugent and Bill Maher? Are you REALLY going to try to show me how classy Ted is? Please, just stop. Tons of older men date younger women. As a 48 year old women, this does not please me but, it's rampant. I'm just sure we can find some of your Republican icons that do the same thing that you probably have sitting on a pedestal. No one here is commenting on Maher's class factor, or his personal life. This is all about these two men's comments in the public media. Ted has many many "out there" comments over the years. They aren't meant to be satire, comedy, or even to expose someone's hyposcrisy. They are spewing anger. His latest comments border on a masked/veiled thread at a minimum. At worst, they rouse his gun-toting followers (some of which are probably nuts) to glorify in committing a crime if the election doesn't go their way.
Hardly comparable to what political satirists such as Maher (and others) say.
I still can't understand why you feel the need to defend his comments. He has his rights to say whatever he wants, and law enforcement has their authority to investigate what they think may be inciteful, and they are.

I hope you people are just here debating for the sake of fun. You know this has absolutely nothing to do with the political divide int he country besides acting as a distraction, right? I love a good debate myself even if it is just for fun but I just want to make sure that everyone knows that this thread is pointless.
Ill sum it up for you. Those who are liberal will defend Maher for being a satirist and will demonize the Nuge for being a crazy gun toting right winger (which he is). They will not focus on the fact that Maher is clearly an elitist snob (and no one try to refute that. I watch the man's show and he is an elitist). The conservatives among you will say that Maher is a socialist progressive (which he is) with an agenda while the Nuge is the saint of rock and roll to the tea party (which he kind of is).
Se, they are both full of it and both have HUGE glaring flaws and you all will ignore the flaws for the guy on your respective side while demonizing the guy on the other side. And you will do this blindly.
Think about this: How likely is it that half of the politically engaged public of the US is consistently wrong on all issues? Think about it. If you are a liberal, you are saying that conservatives are always wrong (or at least a very large majority). If you are conservative, you do the opposite. How can it be possible that half the country is wrong all of the time? In my opinion, it is impossible because most people want the same things while those on the outer extremes wanting more. Just look at how much the tea party and Occupy Wallstreet have in common (a lot more than you think).
So, go ahead and keep on debating about things that dont matter. All it is going to lead to is more entitlement spending and even crazier public policies being created by both parties. Try to be rational, and maybe we can prevent this country from going any farther into the toilet.
This issue is an important issue because Nugent, a person who is a spokesmen for the right, is inciting violence. Leading Republicans aren't speaking out about it. We know the right is full of gun-toting nut jobs. Hell, Nugent was speaking at the NRA when he said it. This is a huge issue. To deny it shows how inured we have become as a country. Nugent called the president a criminal. What do these gun toters do to perceived criminals?
Then the right, rather than be outraged by Nugent's remarks, make excuses by comparing him to Maher who used a vile word. A vile word isn't a threat or a call to arms.
Be glad to, it's hard to debate someone who does it all........when others rep me for your bragging ways, it's time to not play along
