And it's not just in poverty rates where they're leading "the race to the bottom"...

In the case of Texas, it's lack of border control.

Well, here in Illinois, a democrat controlled state, poverty is rampant, along with a sky high unemployment rate. The state is broke. The democratic pols are collecting enormous pesnions, over 100k a year, more in retirment than most citizens ever made while they were working! We cannot afford to pay these outrageous pensions! Health care for the poor has been cut, among other needed services, because the state hasn't paid into the pension fund. There are other honest hard working employees who have paid into the pension fund, & they won't be getting the retirement benefits as promised. Many would like the option to opt out of the pensions, have their money returned that they paid in, & pay into social security like everyone else. At least then they would be eligable to collect social security and/or disability if they ever needed it. Greedy polititions have bancrupted this state. Taxes are so high, it's ridiculous! Spend $200 at the grocery store, pay $20 in taxes! It adds up! So many people are leaving the state, leaving fewer to fund everything. I hope to be relocating in 2 years. I hate it here.

It's cheaper to live in the states that are Republican controlled therefore poor people can afford to live in them.

It's the same reason why you libs keep running to our states.

Not to mention.... the poorest cities in America (over say 150,000 people) are Detroit, Cleveland, Rochester NY, Buffalo, Stockton, Miami, Newark NJ, Baltimore etc.

These cities are heavily Dem voting

Is there any more ignorance that the OP wants to share with us?

It's complicated and not yet fully understood, but suburban housing supply restrictions (the 20th century American housing story) which zoned out the poor, plus high land prices, have had a lot to do with this. Detroit, as poor as it is, has a homeowner majority.

"Restrictive supply also helps define the nature of urban decline. Edward Glaeser and I show that the durable nature of housing, combined with the fact that the supply schedule is inelastic when demand falls below fundamental production costs, largely explains the fact that urban decline is so long and steady in nature. 10 The negative demand shocks experienced by markets such as Detroit lead to very low house prices that help hold people. The durability of housing makes population loss a very slow process. Our work also suggests that cheap housing is relatively more attractive to the poor, which helps to account for the high poverty concentrations in declining markets."

(Of course cheap housing is relatively more attractive to the poor, it is often the only way they can make ends meet.)

Republican states tend to have the most regressive tax structures (like Alabama, which taxes food ).

You are speaking of immigrant and black Democrats living in Republican states. And these states were Democrat-controlled for the past 100+ years, as stated in an earlier post by someone else.

You Dems get these votes. You have to take credit for the behavior. In fact, you encourage it.
