I suppose you also agree that we need to stop bombing foreign countries and killing innocent children as well? Or are their lives not as important to you because they are not American?

By banning ownership of assault weapons, and prohibiting pistol ammo, it would make it a lot tougher for those intent on mass slaughter to use a gun to do it.

No it wouldn't, it just creates a black market..... just like alcohol once did, illegal drugs have, gambling once did etc.
At least with the things legal, we can make sure that the things have things like safety mechanisms and other safety features

People would be far more reluctant to deal on the black market with mandatory ten year prison terms waiting for them. Besides, the gun owners all declare themselves to be law-abiding...so why would they not respect and comply with any new gun control legislation? Hmmmm?
SCOTUS can revisit issues. It happens all the time.
