This is absurd. One statist demands that, unless they are a part of the government establishment, people can't HELP, and are FORCED to stay off the roads because their presence could possibly interfere with economic activity. Another statist wants to know if people should be sued because their presence could possibly interfere with economic activity.
I don't believe roads should be closed.
It is OK to state "We recommend emergency travel only!"
After that, if you go out there, don't expect anybody to risk their lives to save your sorry butt!
If you get stuck and/or stranded, you just might DIE!
You took the risk, and failed. So sad, too bad, you did it to yourself!
One of the sillier statements made by the media is "The massive storm was responsible for XX deaths!" I disagree. The deaths, usually, were caused by stupidity. Of course, there are always exceptions, but somebody who starts a trip in the middle of a blizzard, gets stuck, and freezes to death wasn't killed by the blizzard! Same thing for somebody who ignores evacuation orders, and dies during a hurricane.
The first person responsible for my safety is ME!

What is this? Words of common sense? You get an "Atta Boy!" (where Boy = non-gender, non-race, non-religion, non-age specified, non-sexual orientation, non-any kind of bias type person)
Oh wait! I just noticed you are from Billings! Montana! That's almost as bad as those common sense anti's from Alaska, Wyoming, Kansas and Texas... You're one of THOSE folks... huh??? Well if THAT'S the case, you're ideas are OK by me!
The penalty for abandoning a car on a road when the state has banned travel should be simple:
(1) Send the car to a car wrecking firm to demolish and sell as scrap metal. Proeeds go towards road cleanup budget.
(2) Owner is barred from having a driver's license for one year. It is suspended immediately.

And what should the penalty for proposing ridiculous laws?

Maryland has some serious fines for abandoning a car on a Snow Emergency Route to go along with the towing and storage fees. There also is a hefty fine if you're in an accident on one of those routes and don't have snow tires or M&S tires.

The penalty should be massive. Snow removal costs would greatly decrease were it not for large quantities of cars abandoned.
If you don't want your car, it should not be the governments job to store it and secure it for you.
If someone drops a paper cup on the edge of my property, I dispose of it as litter. Same principle should apply with cars on highways without drivers.
There will be no more 1st or 2nd Amendment protections because we have a national emergency, one that has dumped over 3' of snow on the majority of the economic capabilities of the nation, the northeast! Furthermore, since some of you lunatic people, those who hate all things government, are not content with what we are doing to you for your own good, we have decided that "The beatings shall continue until moral improves!"
All I can do is sit back and laugh at the sickness that is statism.
AnonymouseX I hope you took my comments for the ultra-sarcastic humor they were meaning to portray, and NOT at you.

Lolol.
Statists make me sick as well.
I was just reading an article in frickin Pravda pointing out how we are taking the same failed socialistic and commie approach as the former USSR.
When Pravda is calling us a bunch of commies something is wrong
Seriously...
But on the other hand, when something goes terribly wrong and all these morons die waiting for the govt to save them they had better not be mad when I laugh...
