I don't know about the Republicans specifically, but people do seem more angry about that combination (why, I have no idea). I'm a redheaded woman, and my last three boyfriends were Black... nobody seemed to care much, but then again, I tend to avoid people who WOULD care about such a thing.
I think it would depend on where you are, correct? In California, people are more liberal, but in the Southern states, maybe it would be different?
Exactly. This person made some very ignorant, mean-spirited comments last week on one of the gay marriage threads, talking about how her country views homosexuality and acting like she simply couldn't grasp why Americans discuss it so openly and how she's glad gay people in her country don't ask for marriage equality and we can keep that in America. So I find it hard to believe all of the "Oh no offense, I'm just trying to learn about your culture" mess that she has posted here regarding interracial marriage. She's fishing and trying to stir up negativity about interracial relationships for no reason. Now she's specifically asking for republicans to come in and say how awful it is? Give me a break!
I apologize, I didn't mean any harm and no my comments were not intended to be mean spirited at all. I mentioned how my country views homosexuality but I never once said anything hateful towards anyone who expressed that they are homosexual. Please do not make me seem like an ignorant person, I am not.
This sounds more like being trolled than anything.
OP, if you want to talk with people who are thinking like you, perhaps Stormfront would be a good place to begin.
This is not the writing of a non-native English speaker. Yes, there are rare cases when ESL is hardly noticeable; we have several people on this board who post using better grammar and vocabulary than many native speakers.
This one doesn't ring true.
I attended English primary school in my country and UNI in the UK. Perhaps you would feel better if I used the wrong words to express myself? Obviously, since I am not British or American, I should not be able to speak English properly. Why do you have this horrible stereotype? Maybe you do not know that my family enjoys a very good standard of living in Turkey and we can speak English very well. Have you ever travelled, many of us can speak multiple languages exceptionally well. I speak Turkish, English, French, Arabic and Armenian and plenty of Italian.
When I study something I master it. My grammar on the boards may not be on par with a native English speaker's grammar, but if I wrote a very serious composition I would edit to make certain that there were no mistakes. Am I a troll for doing this? Apparently, so.
Slasher, I do not advocate what you have posted in any way. I asked about cultures and ethnic backgrounds not about brain size. I do not look down on any mixed race person. My question was, why is mixing races seen as social progression in the U.S.?
I have a hard time believing 51% of Americans favor interracial relationships. When only 8% are even involved in such a marriage.
''Fine with it" ? Pretty board statement. Your 2nd statement is one only made by someone of mixed raced, dating some of another race or has family with mixed race. Sorry that makes you bias on the issue. Your circle of friends might share your opinion but there is no way 51% of this country favors interracial relationships.
Just because someone approves of it doesn't mean they'd engage in it themselves.
Additionally, that poll doesn't cite whether it was conducted exclusively on blacks and whites. For all we know there could have been a significant number of asians and hispanics who participated in that poll which could significantly skew the data because today, compared to the 70's and 80's is ALOT more diverse. Which could be a perfect explaination for those numbers.
It's really not very accurate is what I'm trying to get at and doesn't tell the full story.
What about the role of ethnicity, traditions and customs, won't this be lost?
I'm from the Americas and my heritage comes from three continents. I believe that since my ancestors came together and produced me and others related to me and who may look like me, we represent the best traits and traditions of these disparate geographic and cultural heritages. We are new people. Humanity blends and creates new people all the time, and as we connect with each other across the world on a progressively higher level, this process will accelerate. It's a great thing for our world.
Just because someone approves of it doesn't mean they'd engage in it themselves.
I answered a question. The question was how many people are in FAVOR of allowing interracial marriages. Not how many people are in, or want to be in interracial marriages.
