I thought that was a government service, but I guess not TAX funded? Officially confused now.
It's a Constitutionally mandated service that is regulated by congress. Its governing board is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. However, it is financially independent - all of its money comes from selling postage and products.

Thank you for explaining... figures the "lefty" would be the one to give me a civilized response.

Postal workers too scared to deliver mail in crime-ridden Brooklyn neighborhood, Brownsville - NYPOST.com
I can't imagine that there is much mail since most of them cannot read anyway.

Maybe you should go take the job then.....

They should figure out how much tax each community contributes and adjust the service accordingly.

Interesting how the granddaughter of a MURDERED postman is saying they should still get service, while the rest of you are looking to punish a whole community for the bad apples. And they wonder why the rich keep getting richer, while the poor keep getting poorer? This is a big part of what's wrong with our country, and the elitist attitude is really getting on my nerves - and that also coming from the daughter of a "1%-er," ironically enough. Anyway, I've said my peace, so you continue to argue among yourself and demonize the poor... that is what you righties do best, isn't it?
If the PO offered to put all that mail in a central location for YOU to pick up and deliver, would you do it?

If I were a postal officer, yes. I delivered pizzas all through college, and even with that x-Ed out neighborhood, I went into my share of iffy places... that was my job, and I knew going in that it was a risky "profession." Aren't right-wingers (and even most lefties) usually of the mindset that "you do your job, or find one that suits you better?"

Why are you assuming they all smoke and drink? Not all poor people do those things, you know. To repeat the example I gave earlier, why should some nice old person who just happens to be on a fixed income have to suffer for her neighbors' bad behavior? I can see their point to some degree, but not when it means punishing an entire neighborhood!

What next - are we going to cut off fire, police, road servicing, etc, from every high-crime neighborhood?
