To your original question. Some know that not having the father around isn't good. Some are hoping hewill stick around. Some are attracted to criminals, but are shocked if/when the criminal baby daddy gets locked up.
Many of these mothers of all these children most likely grew up without fathers to begin with so go out and look for love and think they find it many times when in reality the guy is just looking for a good time. They get pregnant, they leave, and the women go looking for that love again. The cycle marches on.

I do not think it's all about the money for most of these women.
I don't know what you mean by urban women. Do you believe these urban women are the only single moms? I think you'd be surprised by the reality of many rural, and suburban areas.
Also, urban women are not some monolithic group who all do the same things for the same reasons.
The urban woman thing does not acknowledge regions with deeply entrenched poverty, Appalachia, Mississippi Delta and Indian Reservations in the Dakotas.
You know that "urban" is code word for black/brown women.

You take people who grow up in broken families and they have a very skewed sense of self worth and value. How could they not?
A home where there is a different man at the head of the table every few months. This stranger doesn't even like the kids sitting at the table. Mom she is desperate for acceptance and swallows just about any abuse he levels at her or children.
The children learn early that they are at best an inconvenience. They watch how these men behave. How their mom behaves. This is their normal.
How can anyone expect a different outcome?
