Because unlike most European countries, US does nothing to control costs, so they've gotten out of control. The markup on most medical supplies, are better then new tech.

No wonder Medicare is in a bind. Even cracking down on prescriptions would save it billions.

The American culture is a morally corrupt one. We're no better than our politician neighbors to the south, really. The American ethos is to pursue the primitive accrual of unlimited wealth and power.

If Canada were attacked or went to war the U.S. would take care of it.

Same with the Western European countries.

Sure Canada has a military they pay for. It's just a lot smaller and they spend a lot less money than they would if the U.S. weren't around.

Frankly, I think it's BS. Countries should be responsible enough to provide an adequate defense and not depend on the U.S.

The U.S. government loves it though. Allows us to push people around.

I suspect it's along the lines of the USA funding ALL medical research. In other words...bogus.

Bingo

We have the most expensive health care system in the world - with one of the poorest outcomes healthwise, and lowest life expectancies.

The notion that socialized medicine is "inferior" is only perpetuated by those in this country that stand to continue to pocket billions based on it staying just the way it is.

The richest CEO's in this country are those over healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.

You're moving the goalposts. You said you pay for our defense. You pay squat for our defense. Furthermore, kindly tell me who is going to attack us. The only threats I have seen is coming FROM the US, as in "We'll just attack you and take your oil, gold, diamonds and other natural resources."

Surely, if this were true, you'd find something on the google. I'll wait.

I beg to disagree with the last line of your post, but agree with the rest. I think the only way to get costs under control is to bring in an NHS style system with strict cost control measures. Single payer is too expensive because the private sector is too expensive and can't be depended on to reduce costs

Congress denied Medicare the ability to negotiate drug prices.
How else can they payback Big Pharma for their support?

Meh. We could just rub our maple-scented polymer bills over our food.
